Waterparks hold nothing back on IF LYRICS WERE CONFIDENTIAL

Waterparks have followed up this summer’s massive RED GUITAR with a brutally honest – but, as always, incredibly entertaining – new single, IF LYRICS WERE CONFIDENTIAL.

While the first verse hears frontman Awsten Knight admitting, ‘I hate 50 per cent of our fans, and the other half understands / And to the ones who don’t / Go cry and choke on both of my middle finger ringed-up hands,’ and reflecting on the difficulties of life in the public eye (a la the band’s brilliant 2019 album FANDOM), verse two then tackles his experiences within the music industry: ‘One label said that things will go great / If you don’t talk back and don't put on weight / You’re a little too niche for the radio / But you’ll probably drive TikTok crazy, though.’

Says Awsten: “A lot of the songs on the next Waterparks album play with big, abstract concepts, and IF LYRICS WERE CONFIDENTIAL was one of those. The premise is exactly what it sounds like – things I’d get into if I didn’t think anyone would ever hear the song, which in my opinion is the best way to write. It’s how you get yourself to talk about the most personal and uncomfortable things. The lyrics brush through a lot of topics very quickly, all of which could probably be their own songs, but that’s also what makes it exciting.”
