Evanescence singer Amy Lee has dug into the musical pasts of Bring Me The Horizon’s Oli Sykes, Body Count rapper Ice-T and Norwegian singer Aurora on a brand new episode of the Songwriting Made Me Who I Am Podcast.
In the show, she and her guests discuss what first turned them on to music, what they found in it, and how a life in music has helped them learn about themselves. For Oli, discovering rock music via Kerrang! TV as a teen was a pivotal moment.

“Music wasn’t a big part of my life until I was about 13,” he says. “Before that, I never really had a real sense of identity. It wasn’t until my parents first got cable at home and I went on Kerrang! TV [and saw] Linkin Park and Evanescence and all these rock bands, and thinking, ‘What the hell is this?’
“I’ve got ADHD so I always felt like a caged animal growing up, and then I was seeing all these artists and people onstage or in music videos, and they were losing their minds, just going crazy, screaming, rolling around on the floor,” he continues. “I remember the first time I saw Glassjaw, I was like, ‘Man, that is what I wanna do.’”

Last year, Amy and Oli worked together on Horizon's song One Day The Only Butterflies Left Will Be In Your Chest As You March Towards Your Death.
"One thing that was really cool about this process working back and forth with Oli was we both encouraged and pushed each other to sing and work kind of differently," Amy said of the collab. "It started with the first time I laid my vocal down and sent it over, he encouraged me to sing certain parts of the song less; more about breath and less about power. That is challenging for me. I really like that style but it’s not my comfort zone – it’s easier for me to harness my voice when I just blast it.”
"I told her about it being kind of a love song between the planet and mankind and she absolutely loved the idea," added Oli, "and said it reminded her of what their kind of message they were working on for their new album [The Bitter Truth]. She wrote some lyrics for the last part that she said she didn’t like, and I was just like, ‘No, they’re fucking sick; they’re perfect.'"
