Deftones frontman Chino Moreno reveals the meaning behind their new album title, Ohms
Unless you've been sitting in a darkened room with your fingers in your ears, you're no doubt aware that Deftones are back with their ninth studio album Ohms.
After a four-year absence, the Californian alt.metal titans have announced that their next full-length will be released on next month, casually dropping the stunning title-track like it ain't no thing.
But where did the album title, Ohms, come from?
Well, Google defines the title of Deftones' ninth outing as “an electrical resistance between two points of a conductor”. Okay, we kinda knew that already, but what does that word mean to frontman Chino Moreno?
“It's that balance and polarity of things,” he tells Kerrang!. “I've always described our band as having that yin and yang. As people, the music we make, and the lyrics that I write, there's always this juxtaposition and that's the beauty of what we've created.”
So there you have it. Leave it to Deftones to reinterpret the definition of a physical object into something more ethereal and altogether more interesting.
We headed into the studio with Chino and Abe Cunningham to get the lowdown on their new album, plus stories behind some of the new songs.
Deftones new album, Ohms, is released September 25 via Warner Records. Listen to the title-track below.
