After doing some sneaky teasing at their recent Crystal Palace mega-show, Deftones have just announced their highly-anticipated new album, private music.

The record was produced by Nick Raskulinecz (who also did 2010’s Diamond Eyes and 2012 follow-up Koi No Yokan) and was recorded in Malibu and Joshua Tree in California, as well as Nashville, Tennessee. It’s due out on August 22 via Reprise/Warner Records – and you can get a taste of what’s to come with lead single my mind is a mountain below…

And the album cover:

Last May, frontman Chino Moreno was in the studio recording vocals, while the month prior, he’d said that Deftones were “jazzed” about what they’d been creating, and that their new album has an “invigorated kind of sound”.

“The creative part, to me, is always kind of the funnest part of being in this band,” Chino shared. “Performing is great, but coming up with something out of nothing, that feeling cannot be topped. And so when you get in the room with your friends, we’re laughing, we’re having fun and then someone does something and then I react to it or they react to what I’m doing, it goes in a circle and then, all of a sudden, we lift our heads up and there’s something that exists that didn’t exist before we walked in that room. That’s just great.”
