Limp Bizkit returned to the stage over the weekend for their first show since the tragic loss of Sam Rivers, who passed away in October.
Joined by Richard ‘Kid Not’ Buxton on bass – who usually plays with recent Bizkit support act Ecca Vandal – the band hit Estadio Fray Nano in Mexico City on November 29. And, before launching into their 15-song setlist, they walked onto the stage and sat down on chairs in front of their fans to watch a powerful four-minute tribute video to Sam, which ended with the words: “Sam Rivers, our brother forever.”
Drummer John Otto had also taken to social media before this moment to reflect that the show was “going to be tough”. “A first I never wanted to experience,” he posted. “Especially not now. You’ve been there for so many major firsts in my life. Some of my earliest memories were made with you. We grew up together. Laughed together. Realised our dreams together. And travelled the world together.”
“You’ve always been there. The godfather to my girls, my best friend – my brother. There will never be another you. We’re going to honour the life you lived and the love you spread with every show we play. You’ll always be with us.
“Thank you to our fans for all the messages of support and tributes to Sam,” he added. “It means the world to us. This one’s for you Sammy.”
After the performance, Kid Not said of paying tribute to Sam: “Deeply grateful to be able to celebrate the forever amazing @samriverslb. Standing with @limpbizkit in Mexico City last night, you could feel his spirit in every moment. It’s an incredible honour to be here. This tour is for Sam!”
