Green Day frontman and apparent The Network super-fan Billie Joe Armstrong spotted the clip, and responded on his own account: “What the actual fuck?” So, thank you for your fandom, Billie. Without it, we’d never have known the band you’re definitely not in had new music out. And he was good enough to continue denying the band were Green Day.
He’s far too busy, anyway. For one thing, his No-Fun Mondays covers series that he started in lockdown is getting a proper release on November 27. And he’s also been using this down time to whittle away at a new Green Day record.
“I’ve been writing a lot of music, and I had all these melodies in my head, so I wrote, like, six songs since all of this has been going on,” he said. “I don’t know when I can get together with Mike [Dirnt, bass] and Tré [Cool, drums], but I told them to make sure that they’re quarantined for now, and then I hope down the road we can get back in the studio with [Father Of All… producer] Butch Walker.”
So yeah. Far too busy to be in The Network. Definitely not him.
