Inaugural Entertainment have announced that Green Day’s anticipated coming-of-age comedy movie will now be called Nimrods.
Having acquired the film – which was formerly entitled New Years Rev – the company’s CEO Kevin Weisberg states that, “Nimrods is exactly the kind of bold, audience-forward storytelling we’re passionate about at Inaugural. It captures a unique blend of humour, nostalgia and music that feels both fresh and universally resonant. We’re thrilled to collaborate with the filmmakers and Green Day to bring this dynamic story to audiences everywhere.”
Directed by Lee Kirk, the movie features Mason Thames, Mckenna Grace, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Sean Gunn, Bobby Lee and Fred Armisen, and is about three pals who ‘journey to Los Angeles, mistakenly believing that their band is opening for Green Day on New Year’s Eve. Their roadtrip is a rowdy and mischievous jaunt across the country filled with adventures, based on the exploits of Green Day and their years of living in a tour van.’
“Nimrods is a wild, funny and music-driven story that reflects the culture surrounding Green Day and their deep fandom,” adds Ryan Kroft, Head of Film & Television at Live Nation Studios. “We’re excited to partner with Inaugural to bring that energy to cinemas and continue expanding how Live Nation Studios’ projects connect with mass audiences.”
Under its previous title, New Years Rev premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last September. Stay tuned for more on the release of Nimrods when we have it, and watch the previous teaser trailer below:
