K-pop star Yoon of STAYC has shared a fun, faithful cover of Avril Lavigne’s pop-punk classic Sk8er Boi – watch the video now.
With Avril Lavigne enjoying a massive pop-punk comeback last year – from her album Love Sux, to celebrating the 20th anniversary of debut Let Go – the Canadian star’s music has just been celebrated by K-pop artist Yoon.
The musician – who sings with Seoul superstars STAYC – has shared a fun solo cover of classic single Sk8er Boi, not only faithfully recreating the song itself but also Avril’s iconic look from that era with studs, chains and a school tie.
Watch it below:
In December 2021, when talking about turning Sk8er Boi into a movie, Avril explained of the lyrics and storyline behind the single: “You know what it was like in high school, you have all the different groups and cliques, and there’s like skaters, preps and jocks. It’s kind of like a missed opportunity at love.
“The skater boy is in love with the preppy girl and she’s too cool for him but then five years from now she’s feeding the baby and she’s all alone and she wishes she would have followed her heart and not tried to live up to society’s expectations.”
In November last year, Avril revealed that she was already working on the follow-up to Love Sux. “Omfg my new album is coming along so quickly!” she tweeted. “Nothing like working with your friends. Been working with Alex from All Time Low, Travis, Feldy, and YUNGBLUD… it’s been like… Laugh. Talk. Write. Sing. Record. Repeat.”
