Speaking to Kerrang! about VII as a whole, Harpy enthuses, “I’m so proud to finally be releasing this EP. I may be a new artist to most people, but even since before my first release this concept had been planned in my mind. It may have taken longer than I anticipated, due to the brutal climate of the industry working against emerging independent artists – at this point I am still and always have been unsigned… with no publisher, booking agent, manager, label or investors behind me – but we’re here regardless. It just goes to show that if you fight, hard, you don’t need all of those people to reach your community. I am so grateful to have found mine.
“VII is a descent into my deepest darkest sins and secrets. The record begins powerfully, in the more maniacal emotions, chaotic rage, power, lust… but we eventually delve deeper into the more vulnerable, shame-inducing sins like sloth and envy. I hope people embrace the multitude of genres throughout this record. I may make heavier ‘rock’ labelled music, but in my soul I am a pop writer, influenced by industrial, tech, goth, metal subcultures, and I think if you understand that, it’s clear to hear through the record.”
Of the single, she continues: “Last Time was a real joy to make, and came together so quickly. I had gate-crashed an LA songwriting trip WARGASM had planned for themselves and at around day eight of the two-week trip, I was starting to panic that I hadn’t been in any writing sessions. Sam connected me with Brian Moroney, who hooked up a session with his artist Ariza and the rest is history. I took Milkie Way with me and we all hit it off in the studio. We wanted to write a song about the end of the world, on my original lyrics document the song is titled Fuckpocalypse… We started with the sound of screams and a chainsaw and went from there.
“People who have heard this song live, true day ones, will know it as Apocalypse, and it’s truly biblical track to me. I hope it turns people on, makes them wanna fuck and headbang.”
