Bar the live debut of a new song and their upcoming headline appearance at Las Vegas’ mega When We Were Young, things have been a little quiet on the Green Day news front… but hopefully not for much longer.

The pop-punk legends have taken to social media to tease something related to the 30th anniversary of their seminal third album Dookie – of course, that big birthday is on February 1, 2024, so they’re clearly getting their planning done in advance.

The band posted the hashtag #Dookie30 along with what is presumably an old photo from the studio (given Billie Joe Armstrong’s tattoos – or lack of – in the picture). The frontman also shared the same pic on his Instagram stories, along with a playful GIF of himself.

Last month, at Quebec City’s Plaines d’Abraham, Green Day performed a new song called 1981 live for the first time ever. Previously they’d been teasing something to do with the year 1972, and we have no idea if the two are linked, but let’s hope there’s even more new stuff on the way.

In late 2022, they confirmed that they had been working on a new album, posting: “WTF WHAT a year. Seeing you all at festivals, in between working recording our record in London & LA, doing a Hella Mega European tour playing the US East Coast, Chicago and Florida, San Francisco, shows in Brazil and Argentina. Playing Singapore to Austin Texas to Los Angeles charity show with Billy Idol, Jon Fogerty and The Who.”
