Green Day side-project The Coverups announce 2025 London show
Surprise! Billie Joe Armstrong will be back in London next month for another special show with his side-project The Coverups.
Green Day’s beloved 1997 album Nimrod turns 25 on Friday… and the band are seemingly going to be celebrating the big day.
Green Day are clearly enjoying a bit of nostalgia right now: after announcing their appearance headlining next year’s When We Were Young fest (alongside blink-182, now with Tom DeLonge back in the band), the trio are also set to look back 25 years at the release of Nimrod.
The punk rock titans’ brilliant, beloved fifth LP was released allllll the way back in 1997, on October 14, and it seems as though they’re gearing up for some 25th anniversary celebrations on Friday. “Someone’s got a very big birthday on Friday… any guesses who??” they posted along with a Nimrod-esque graphic with the roman numerals XXV.
Naturally, given how long they’ve been going now, Green Day have had several 25th anniversary album celebrations to contend with in the past – which they have. Nimrod’s predecessor Insomniac was remastered and reissued on orange vinyl for its quarter-century birthday, with the band also sharing several bonus live songs from that tour. Can we expect something similar for Nimrod?! We sure hope so…
