Linkin Park, Metallica, Korn, Bad Omens and more for Sonic Temple festival 2025
Sonic Temple is going bigger than ever for 2025 with Metallica, Korn, Linkin Park, Bad Omens, Poppy, Motionless In White and more across four days...
Kirk and Robert from Metallica busted out Celtic Frost's The Usurper in Zurich.
These days, it's easy to think of Metallica as a huge mainstream metal act. But we should never forget that back when they started off, those dudes were all about about evil underground metal like Mercyful Fate and Venom. Members Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo decided to remind the audience of that in Zurich, Switzerland, the other night when they came onstage and did a rendition The Usurper by Swiss black metal pioneers Celtic Frost.
As you'll see in the video below, Robert and Kirk perform the song as just a guitar and bass duo, with Rob reading the lyrics from a sheet on a music stand. And while that lacks a certain punch, there's something deeply sweet about two metal dudes performing an impromptu Celtic Frost cover without drums. It reminds one of that grim metalhead we all knew in school, who would get up and play Necromantical Screams during music class after everyone else was done performing the Day Tripper intro.
Check out Robert and Kirk paying homage to Tom G. Warrior below:
Well, it's safe to say, OUGH!
