Megadeth have released their new version of Ride The Lightning

“I think we did it at least as good – it’s a little faster…” With Megadeth’s final album dropping today, it means their cover of Metallica’s Ride The Lightning is also out!

Megadeth have released their new version of Ride The Lightning.

The track appears as a bonus song on the thrash titans’ self-titled album, which is out in full today (January 23). Previously speaking to Kerrang! about tackling the Metallica classic – which was of course written back in the day by Dave Mustaine alongside James Hetfield, Cliff Burton and Lars Ulrich – the frontman explained, “If you’re going to do a cover song. You’ve got to do it at least as good, if not better.”

Of the finished thing, Dave said, “When it was done, we played it for a couple of people, and a lot of people we know are fans of that band and that song, so they knew what they were listening to, A vs. B, and the consensus has been pretty much the same – that we did a fitting homage. I think we did it at least as good – it’s a little faster.”

In Kerrang!’s 3/5 review, we said that, “Megadeth (the album) is the perfect encapsulation of how Megadeth (the band) have lived: bold, frequently brilliant but occasionally flawed. And, despite The Last Note’s insistence there’ll be ‘a quiet end to it all’, they’re going out very fucking loudly, indeed.”
