Geoff Keighley’s newly-released hype trailer for The Game Awards 2025 spectacularly features Rain by Sleep Token: “An extraordinary song about pain, rebirth and catharsis…”
A cinematic version of Sleep Token’s Rain has been used in the new trailer for The Game Awards, to much excitement from the band’s loyal fans.
Taking place this Thursday, December 11 at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater, The Game Awards will feature a special performance from Evanescence, as well as a huge celebration of this year’s very best video games. And host/awards founder Geoff Keighley is warming up for the whole thing by unveiling his very own ‘hype’ trailer, which is soundtracked by Sleep Token’s Rain (taken from their 2023 breakout album Take Me Back To Eden).
Geoff writes that it’s “an extraordinary song about pain, rebirth and catharsis”, and shares that he chose it because “it reflected not just the journeys inside this year’s nominees, but a personal journey for me as well after losing my dad a few months ago.
“A small note you might not know: when Sleep Token performs Rain live, Vessel often begins with chords from the Halo 3 theme – a beautiful, unexpected connection,” he adds. “When I reached out, the band was gracious enough to let us use the song for this project.
“What you see here is the result – a three-minute piece that takes dozens of disparate games and finds a universal story running through them. Like any creative pursuit, the edit is a journey. After hundreds of hours, there’s a moment where things fall into place – when the right quote lands perfectly on the right note, and suddenly the whole timeline in Premiere lights up with meaning.
“I’m always deeply proud of these videos. They’re part of how I host this show. I’m not doing jokes or monologues – this is how I connect with you. And I hope that somewhere in this trailer, there’s a moment that resonates with how you feel when you play games.”
