Black Sabbath and Aston Villa team up for super-limited edition collab shirts and a one-off pair of Predator boots…
Over 60 music icons are assembling under the banner Mark Knopfler’s Guitar Heroes for Going Home (Theme From Local Hero), released in March and raising money for charity.
A star-studded new charity single has been announced, featuring members of Black Sabbath, Guns N’ Roses, Queen and so many more – not to mention it also includes Jeff Beck’s final recording.
Over 60 legendary musicians will be teaming up as Mark Knopfler’s Guitar Heroes for Going Home (Theme From Local Hero), which is due out on March 15 via BMG and will be raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America.
As well as the aforementioned Tony Iommi, Slash and Brian May, the track features an epic assembly of David Gilmour, Joan Jett, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Sam Fender, Nile Rodgers, Ringo Starr, Ronnie Wood, Pete Townshend and many more.
“What I really want to do, more than anything else, is just to thank each and every one for this sterling response,” begins Mark Knopfler of the whole endeavour. “I really had no idea that it was going to be like this. It hit Guy [Fletcher, producer] and I quite early on that we had to extend this piece somehow, to take in the number of people who joined in.
“Before I knew where I was, Pete Townshend had come into my studio armed with a guitar and an amp. And that first Pete power chord… man, I tell you. We were in that territory, and it was just fantastic. And it went on from there. Eric [Clapton] came in, played great, just one tasty lick after another. Then Jeff Beck’s contribution arrived and that was spellbinding. I think what we’ve had is an embarrassment of riches, really. The whole thing was a high point.”
