Slayer are back! The thrash metal heroes returned to the stage
this weekend for their first performance since November 30, 2019’s ‘final’ show
at The Forum in California.
On Sunday, September 22, the band hit Douglass Park in Chicago
for the first of three U.S. festival dates at Riot Fest (Louder Than Life and Aftershock
will follow in the coming weeks).
And it was a typically almighty comeback, with Slayer kicking
off a 20-song setlist with South Of Heaven
and wrapping up with Angel Of Death. In between, they played Reborn for
the first time since 2014, and 213 for the first time since 1998, as well as
the likes of Seasons In The Abyss, War Ensemble, Dead Skin Mask
and Raining Blood.
But will we see more of this going into 2025?
Announcing their October Aftershock
set, the band said: “There’s been a lot of excited fans out there about our
playing a couple of festival dates, so it’s great to be able to add this last
one.” For now, then, guess we’ll just have to make the most of these two remaining
festivals…
