Joice M. Figueiró, who gave birth during a Metallica show in Brazil last weekend, received a sweet phone call from frontman James Hetfield.
The metal legend phoned up Joice and her husband Jaime to give them his well wishes on May 10, congratulating them on the birth of young Luan Figueiró – who was born as the band played Enter Sandman during their encore in Curitiba on May 7.
"This is James from Metallica," he says in the short, 15-second clip (though the conversation lasted seven minutes according to Joice), "Congratulations, you guys."
In an interview with The Washington Post, Joice said that the whole experience of giving birth at the gig was "a mix of emotions": "Since it wasn’t planned, I was scared that the medical team wouldn’t be ready. But there’s also the feeling of being able to tell people that this happened because Metallica is one of the bands we love the most."
She also joked that Luan's name could have been James Ulrich (a mash-up of James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich), "But really, since this name question has brought up great appeal and we haven’t registered him, we’re thinking of maybe adding a [middle] name and putting some homage in there," Joice said.
