Nirvana's Krist Novoselic Defends Nickelback Against Fox News Journalist

Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic has defended Nickelback after a video was unearthed of a Fox News editor saying disparaging things about the Canadian rockers.

Writer and transgender activist Parker Molloy dug up the clip of Fox News, in which Fox News pundit Chris Stirewalt compares Nickelback to, erm, socialism. Yes, you read that right.

“Nickelback is like socialism,” Stirewalt says in the video. “Our generation and prior generations fought hard against the scourge of Nickelback and to show what the dangers are of emo-pop ballad ’90s rock.”

That prompted the former Nirvana bassist to reply. writing “Who is this jerk? Nickelback is a is [sic] power pop rock band & I love them!!!!”

He continues: “They are Canadian BTW. The USA can work well because of the uneasy marriage between socialism and capitalism here. There is push and pull—so be weary of those on the fringe advocating one way or another.”

The fact that someone from Nirvana is actually sticking up for Nickelback is pretty hilarious, given how much hatred Chad Kroeger and his incredibly divisive band seem to invoke from, well, just about everyone.

Nickelback have been in the news recently because they reported one of Donald Trump’s tweets for copyright infringement, after the President of the USA used Nickelback’s song Photograph in a tweet about former Vice-President (and 2020 Democratic Party nominee) Joe Biden and his son, Hunter. Trump’s tweet was taken down as a result.

Krist is not the first person in recent months to defend the Canadians – at the end of 2018, in the trailer for Once Upon A Deadpool, the Marvel super anti-hero sticks up for the quartet in response to The Wonder Years actor Fred Savage calling them “over-produced, formulaic ear garbage.” If you didn’t see it, you can watch it below:
