Last night, Los Angeles hosted the FireAid benefit gig for the victims of the devastating fires that swept through California earlier this month. Hosted simultaneously at the city's Kia Forum and Intuit Dome venues, the five-hour concert featured performances from Lady Gaga (performing a new song written especially for the event), Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks, Katy Perry, Joni Mitchel, Rod Stewart, Olivia Rodrigo, Sting, Stevie Wonder and many more.
Green Day were joined by Billie Eilish for Last Night on Earth, before P!nk did a cover of Led Zeppelin's Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You. Elsewhere, notably proud Californians Red Hot Chili Peppers busted out Dani California, Californication, Black Summer and Under The Bridge, with bassist Flea yelling, “Love you so much Los Angeles. Los Angeles is our home. We fuckin’ love you.”
But the big surprise was Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear returning to the stage to run through a clutch of Nirvana cuts with a host of guest singers, the first time Dave had performed in public since announcing the news that he had become a father outside of his marriage last September.
They were joined by St. Vincent for opener Breed, before a raucous School with former Sonic Youth singer Kim Gordon, and Territorial Pissings with Joan Jett. The short turn finished with Dave's daughter Violet Grohl singing All Apologies.
The band had previously returned in 2018 for the CalJam festival.
