Kurt Cobain's MTV Unplugged guitar is set to feature in an upcoming Music Icons auction next month, with an estimated starting bid of $1million.
The 1959 Martin D-18E was famously used by the frontman during Nirvana's iconic MTV Unplugged In New York performance in 1993, though was originally purchased by Kurt with a vintage hard-shell case at Voltage Guitars in Los Angeles. The auction for the guitar will also include the case, as well as three Dunlop guitar picks and a "partial" set of strings.
“Julien’s Auctions is proud to offer this historic guitar from Kurt Cobain, who upended the music industry and pop culture at large with his mythic performance fronting Nirvana on MTV Unplugged in New York,” says Julien’s Auctions CEO Darren Julien.
