Metallica frontman James Hetfield will open up about “the story and significance” of each of his guitars throughout his life in upcoming coffee table book Messengers: The Guitars of James Hetfield.
We’ve got a brand-new Metallica album arriving in just a couple of weeks’ time, but if that’s not enough from the metal legends, frontman James Hetfield has also announced a huge new coffee table book.
Due out on October 17, the 400-page Messengers: The Guitars Of James Hetfield will see Papa Het sharing his entire collection of over 40-plus guitars, revealing ‘the story and significance of each within his life and career’.
Detailing everything from ‘the Electra OGV that defined his style, sound and attitude to the mythical MX guitars’, this book will also divulge ‘many studio secrets, including the key amplifiers and gear that sculpt his tone and create his sound’.
A description continues: ‘Each featured guitar is accompanied by lush museum-quality portraits by acclaimed photographer Scott Williamson, exhibiting intimate details one can only see if holding it in their own hands, alongside Hetfield’s deeply personal reminiscence.’
The book is described as ‘a mesmerising window into the mind and soul of one of rock’s greatest frontmen. These invaluable guitars have forged over four decades of music history.’
72 Seasons is due out on April 14, 2023 via Blackened Recordings.
