Ahead of Black Sabbath’s epic Back To The Beginning farewell show in Birmingham this weekend, Hollywood super-hunk and metalhead Jason Momoa has spoken exclusively to Kerrang! about how he’s feeling about compering the whole shebang.

With the likes of Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Tool, Slayer and more making up the mind-blowing bill, it’s up to the Aquaman and Game Of Thrones star to helm the day and make sure the tens of thousands gathered in Aston are never left looking at their phones.

And it turns out that his appointment as ringleader happened almost by accident, telling Kerrang! that he was originally trying to blag his way into the show as a fan.

“I was just calling my buddies. I called Scott Ian, I called Kirk [Hammett], I called people basically begging to go,” he laughs. “And then Ross Halfin, who’s the photographer of every goddamn band, he hit me up and [asked if I was going to be there]. I said I was trying to get a ticket, then he’s like, ‘Sharon wants you to host it!’ I’m like, ‘What the fuck are you talking about, man?!’ I’m over here begging for a ticket and now they want me to host it! I’ve never hosted anything before but I’ve gotta go out in front of all these fucking people and host! And now it’s on pay-per-view. Jesus Christ…”

Looking forward to Saturday and how he’s going to feel when actually onstage at Villa Park in front of 40,000 people, Jason smiles, “I’ll be shitting my pants but at the same time it’s the goddamn greatest metal show in history.

“This show is going to be amazing and I’m so happy they’ve done it on pay-per-view for all to see. Ozzy is everything to me. Sabbath is every-fucking-thing, man. I remember the first song, I remember playing Sabbath to my kids the first time. I love everything about that band. They’re real man, and I’m just going to be around everyone that I grew up loving. Slash and Tool are there, Alice In Chains, Pantera, Metallica… It’s surreal, bro.”

Back The Beginning might be sold out, but you can watch Jason make his hosting debut this weekend on the official livestream.
