Linkin Park, Metallica, Korn, Bad Omens and more for Sonic Temple festival 2025
Sonic Temple is going bigger than ever for 2025 with Metallica, Korn, Linkin Park, Bad Omens, Poppy, Motionless In White and more across four days...
Last week Metallica played a surprise hometown show at San Francisco's 500-capacity club The Independent – their first proper live gig in 738 days!
Metallica returned to the stage for the first time in a whopping 738 days (according to them) late last week, playing a surprise show at the 500-capacity Independent in their hometown of San Francisco.
And they stormed back with an absolutely killer, and, at times surprising, 16-song setlist, opting not to play Enter Sandman or Nothing Else Matters (for the first time since December 10, 2011), but instead opening with Whiplash and tearing through the likes of Ride The Lightning, Holier Than Thou, No Leaf Clover, Moth Into Flame, Fuel, Seek & Destroy and more.

"Back at it after two long years!" shared Lars Ulrich afterwards. "So fuckin psyched to share an on stage experience and connect to others thru live music again. San Francisco, thanx for rolling out… Cya in December at Chase Center for the 40th shenanigans."
Metallica's official account, meanwhile, wrote: "SF!!!!! Thank you for comin’ out last night on such short notice! It was so amazing to play for you again! We’ll see ya again in December at Chase Center for the 40th…"
