Hear ’68 and more release covers for the new Pure Noise x Pabst Blue Ribbon compilation album

Pure Noise Records and Pabst Blue Ribbon have announced their third and final compilation album, Dead Formats Volume 3.

This year’s edition of the collab record will feature 16 covers by bands on the Pure Noise roster, from Spanish Love Songs to Four Year Strong, Knuckle Puck, Senses Fail and Hawthorne Heights.

“PBR is ingrained within music culture so working with Pure Noise Records for the past three years on a project like Dead Formats has been amazing,” says Hunter Cox, Brand Manager, Pabst Blue Ribbon. “They’re able to curate a solid line-up of their artists to cover songs in a whole new light by putting their own twists on it. It’s killer to be part of the process of getting these bands in the studio to showcase their creativity; we’re always stoked to be a part of it.”

Today (September 13) they’ve shared a trio of tracks to get fans ready for the whole thing: covers by ’68, Cloud Nothings and Same Side. Up first, check out ’68’s version of Beastie Boys’ Intergalactic…

“Since our sound is more like two hot rods colliding into a pile of guitars, we wanted to cover a song from a different genre altogether,” explains ’68’s Josh Scogin. “Beastie Boys was an easy decision because their influence on ’68 is obvious, if you listen deep enough.”

“The only other cover song we’ve ever released is a version of The Boys Are Back in Town by Thin Lizzy, back in 2013,” recalls Dylan Baldi. “I don’t know anything about what Thin Lizzy singer Phil Lynott was like as a person, and I wish I knew less about what Glenn Danzig was like a person, but I think having our only cover songs be The Boys Are Back in Town and Halloween 1 & 2 genuinely speaks to the type of people we are. In the immortal words of Danzig: Halloween, Halloween, Halloween, Halloween.”
