Green Day side-project The Coverups announce 2025 London show
Surprise! Billie Joe Armstrong will be back in London next month for another special show with his side-project The Coverups.
Green Day have just announced a one-off, 2,500-capacity gig for the end of this month.
Brace yourselves, people… Green Day have just announced a one-off gig in Madrid, Spain, for the end of this month.
The punk rock titans will be crossing the pond a week today to perform at the 2,500-capacity La Riviera, before they then take on MTV World Stage Seville on November 2. If either show is too late notice for you, part of the Seville performance will be aired the following day during the 2019 MTV EMAs, so you can still get your Green Day fix from the comfort of your own home.
The Madrid gig will be the first since the trio's iHeartRadio performance in which frontman Billie Joe Armstrong called out President Donald Trump during the song American Idiot. Before that, they also played a brilliant secret show in Los Angeles with Fall Out Boy and Weezer at the Whisky-A-Go-Go. All before next year's epic Hella Mega Tour, which excitement levels are ridiculously high for.

Talking to Kerrang! about their new music recently, Billie Joe revealed that song names were a huge part of the creative process when it came to making their forthcoming album Father Of All… (full name: Father Of All Mother Fuckers); in fact, many of his lyrics were based on playful titles that he’d jotted down in the notes on his phone.

“Song titles were really big on this one,” Billie Joe explained. “We have one song called The Art Of The Deal With The Devil – Trump wrote a book called The Art Of The Deal, back in the ’80s or something. It was just these titles that make you laugh. That kind of stuff would lead into lyrics. It’s like a puzzle, just trying to put it together.”
As for why the album is called Father Of All Mother Fuckers?
“Um…” the frontman pondered with a grin. “It’s just a badass title! I think it was Kerry King from Slayer – they have an album called God Hates Us All, and someone asked, ‘Do you really think God hates us all?’ And he goes, ‘I don’t know! It’s just a badass title!’ (Laughs) As soon as the title came up, I was like, ‘Oh man, this is good.’”
Catch Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Weezer and The Interrupters (U.S. only) on the Hella Mega Tour next summer. Tickets are on sale now.
