Live review: Ghost, Manchester AO Arena
The Rapture comes to Manchester as Ghost kick off their Biblical new era on the beyond-all-expectation first night of the Skeletour World Tour.
Ghost have followed up March’s Satanized with new single Lachryma – both of which are taken from the band’s highly-anticipated sixth album Skeletá.
Ghost have just dropped a superb new single and video, Lachryma.
Having previously teased of the track, “We wish to inform you that you’ve made your bed, and now shall cry in it,” you can hear why in the epic chorus, which hears new frontman Papa V Perpetua singing about how, ‘I’m not crying over someone like you…’
Elsewhere, as Kerrang! noted in our review of Skeletá, Lachryma is “accompanied by Sabbath-worshipping weight” in its verses. Basically, it’s just a big combination of everything Ghost do best, and you can watch the video now:
In our 4/5 review of Skeletá, we said that, “Tobias Forge’s latest imposing alter-ego Papa V Perpetua – and his bat-flapped Nameless Ghouls – underlines the fact that high theatricality is still Ghost’s bread and butter. How this slightly more understated collection gels with an ever-more-ostentatious live presentation, and the catalogue of bangers already at their disposal, will be fascinating to see.”
