Avatar were forced to cut this weekend’s headline date in London short.
On Valentine’s Day, the Swedish metallers brought their In The Airwaves Tour to the capital’s Exhibition White City venue, but only made it 12 songs into the show before having to depart after performing Legend Of The King, due to the stage becoming “electrified”, according to Johannes Eckerström.
Taking to social media afterwards, the frontman explained (transcribed by ThePRP): “Hello everyone watching, particularly the people of London who came out to see our show tonight. As you heard, we didn’t make it quite to the finish line.
“The whole stage became electrified. It burnt up some of our equipment and also shocked – severely shocked – two guys in our crew. We have deemed this venue not safe to perform in any longer. Like, we could get hurt, we were simply lucky. The crew guys are fine now, so also lucky. But this is not a safe place to be for you or for us, so how about a rain check?
“We want to figure out what we can do to come back as soon as we can and do you right London. I think both you and us deserve that very much. Thank you for an amazing hour-plus at least, it was supposed to be a bit longer. You were amazing, we were pretty amazing, too. Let’s find an amazing place to finish this.”
Those in attendance were understanding of what had happened, with one fan responding on Instagram, “Thank you for setting the situation straight, a lot of us did not realise the severity of the situation but I’m glad everyone is safe! Hopefully catch you sooner rather than later!”
Another said, “I’m relieved to know the crew and everyone else including myself who attended, all are now safe and well. It was my first time seeing Avatar and despite unfortunate circumstances, it was an amazing show regardless. Thank you to all bands who performed tonight.”
