Last night (May 30), Eddie Vedder covered Nine Inch Nails’ classic song Hurt for the first time at a Pearl Jam show.

The grunge legend has previously tackled The Downward Spiral’s masterpiece of a closer several times while performing solo, but at a hometown date at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena yesterday, Eddie played it in front of over 18,000 fans to mark the end of the North American leg of the band’s Dark Matter tour.

Before the cover, the frontman reflected on those missing from the gig who had been a huge part of the Seattle scene coming up with PJ – referring to the likes of Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell, Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain and more.

“There’s no other guestlist as big as the one as we have when we’re in Seattle,” Eddie began. “San Diego, Chicago… nope. Seattle (laughs).

“To be honest, I wish it were longer. There are certain names that I so deeply wish were on the guestlist tonight, but we lost them too early and in ways we could never imagine. Damnit if I can’t stop thinking about them, but that’s a good thing too, I guess.”
