Turnstile reveal exclusive UK summer headline show
Before joining Tyler, The Creator at All Points East in London, Turnstile will head to Halifax for an exclusive headline date this August.
“With the passing of Mani, it felt like a really appropriate time to pay homage to him…” Watch Turnstile cover The Stone Roses for triple j’s Like A Version.
Turnstile have covered The Stone Roses’ I Wanna Be Adored for triple j’s Like A Version YouTube series.
The iconic opening single on the band’s 1989 self-titled debut album, vocalist Brendan Yates tells the radio station that it’s “one of my favourite songs of all time. It’s unconventional and simple, and just very beautiful.”
Speaking about the decision to cover it, guitarist Meg Mills enthuses that it’s got “one of the most iconic basslines of all time. I think it’s so powerful in its simplicity.”
She adds that Brendan had come up with a list of potential future Turnstile covers, and following the death of legendary Stone Roses bassist Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield last year, the time was right to tackle this one.
“With the passing of Mani, it felt like a really appropriate time to pay homage to him,” she says. “Definitely as a Brit, The Stone Roses were one of those bands that every kid who had any inkling towards anything alternative just knew from such an early age. Just such an iconic band, and in my opinion, probably the coolest of all of the Manchester bands coming out at that time – just in a league of their own.”
