The fourth installment of the Matrix franchise has been given a tentative release date.
Both music and movie fans lost their minds earlier this year upon hearing that game-changing sci-fi/action movie The Matrix would be returning for a fourth installment, with star Keanu Reeves involved and everything. Now, it's been announced that the new movie has been given an official release date.
According to Bloody Disgusting, the fourth Matrix movie will come out May 21, 2021. The film will feature returning stars Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Jada Pinkett Smith. The site makes a point of mentioning that this date is the same day that the fourth John Wick movie, also starring Keanu, will come out, meaning moviegoers will experience the rare and beautiful occurrence of dueling Keanus.
As promised, co-creator Lana Wachowski will direct, write, and produce the film, returning to the franchise she helped found over twenty years since it first shocked the world with its concept of everyday life being nothing more than a computer simulation.

In an interview with Variety, Wachowski said, “Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now, I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”
“We could not be more excited to be re-entering the Matrix with Lana,” said Warner Bros.’ Toby Emmerich of the new film when it was first announced. “Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”
What most Kerrang! readers are primarily interested in, however, is the soundtrack. The original Matrix OST was considered a monumental album, bringing together a collection of both rock and electronic musicians who helped redefine the meaning of heaviness and ominousness. Included on the album were Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Rage Against The Machine, Deftones, Rammstein, and many more.
