The Distillers Cancel Tour Dates After Drummer Gets 40 Stitches In His Hand Following Accident

A pretty grim injury on poor drummer Andy Granelli's hand means that The Distillers have been forced to cancel a bunch of tour dates.

The LA punks were set to be playing a series of gigs in the States this month, but band leader Brody Dalle has explained that the shows will no longer be going ahead. However, they hope to be able to play Reading & Leeds at the end of the month, as the "doctor believes Andy will be healed enough in about three and a half weeks' time".

Of the incident which caused the injury, Brody took to Instagram to explain:

"Andy was in a really bad accident a few days ago that resulted in two very deep gashes, a broken middle finger and a concussion. He was riding his bike down the street and a woman who was struggling with her toddler inside her car kicked the car door open and in a split second attempt to avoid it, Andy was badly injured, his right hand taking most of the impact and requiring 40 stitches.

"This kind of trauma takes time to heal and unfortunately we’ve had to cancel / postpone our upcoming August American tour before Reading & Leeds in the UK. The doctor believes Andy will be healed enough in about 3.5 weeks' time and that’s why we are going forth with Reading & Leeds. Hope you can understand. It’s disappointing for us to have to cancel and postpone but Andy’s hand is crucial to what he does and what we do."

Brody also added a series of photos of the injury to the post – images four, five and six of which are absolutely not for the faint-hearted.

Get well soon, Andy!

Catch The Distillers at Reading & Leeds later this month.
