Canadian punk heroes The Dirty Nil have just announced their fifth album, The Lash.

Following 2023’s Free Rein To Passions, the band – who are now a duo, consisting of vocalist/guitarist Luke Bentham and drummer Kyle Fisher – will be releasing their new LP on July 25 via Dine Alone.

While Kyle describes it as “Luke’s therapy record”, the frontman explains that it was mostly inspired by some forgotten art at the Vatican: “I was in a very dusty part of the basement,” he says, “and they had these crazy bronze reliefs that were some of the most brutal things I’ve ever seen. There was a particular one called The Horrors of War. It was two guys fighting over a knife. That image ended up guiding a lot of this record.”
