Album review: Superchunk – Wild Loneliness
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Superchunk’s 12th – 12th! – album, and their gift for irresistibly melodic alt.rock remains gloriously undiminished…
Superchunk will drop new record Songs In The Key Of Yikes in August, with lead single – and album opener – Is It Making You Feel Something out now…
North Carolina indie-rockers Superchunk have announced their new album, Songs In The Key Of Yikes.
Due out on August 22 via Merge, the follow-up to 2022’s Wild Loneliness sets out to answer some deep questions, according to Mac McCaughan…
“It’s always been the case that everyone is going through something that you may not be aware of,” explains Mac. “This is currently more true than ever – but also the case that we are all going through some things together. In the face of that, what good is art and where is happiness found? Spoiler alert: I don’t know.”
To coincide with the announcement, Superchunk have unveiled album opener Is It Making You Feel Something, which is about “not second-guessing yourself in the very second-guessable process of writing words and music. It’s about the legitimate question of, ‘Who needs this and what is it good for?’ but also about not setting such a high bar for making art that you never get started. ‘Is it making you feel something?’ Okay, that’s a place to start.”
