Foo Fighters cancel appearance at this weekend’s Soundside Music Festival
Jack White and Greta Van Fleet have joined this weekend’s Soundside event in place of Foo Fighters, who have cancelled last-minute.
Well, this is adorable.
The grandma who inspired Greta Van Fleet's name has been interviewed by the Detroit Free Press, and says she "supports" the band.
Though Michigan's own Gretna (note the 'n' in her name; Greta dropped that letter for the sake of pronunciation) may not be a huge fan, she's very much appreciative of what they're doing: “It’s not my favourite music, and the boys know that. But I think they’re very talented, and I support them.”
The 88-year-old did, however, reveal that her favourite song from their catalogue is Flower Power, and even admitted that the usage of her name is "funny". "I didn’t think it would last long," she says, "they wouldn’t hang on to this crazy name."
Anyhow, Gretna has still become something of a local celebrity: “Every day, out in town, somebody will stop me. People are so excited to meet me.”
Greta Van Fleet bassist-keyboardist Sam Kiszka has added of their band-name inspiration: "She gave us the go-ahead. Ever since, she's been living the rock-star life too."
