Red Hot Chili Peppers played a surprise Halloween-themed show at Viewpoint School in Calabasas, California.

“Who rocks out at 9:30am at my kids’ school?,” drummer Chad Smith tweeted following their early morning performance. “We do!”

The group made varying degrees of effort when it came to dressing up for the occasion.

Bassist Flea wore a skeleton onesie, Smith wore a Pope-style outfit and Guy Fawkes' mask, while vocalist Anthony Kiedis wore a school uniform.

Guitarist Josh Klinghoffer wore sunglasses and the sort of green wig popular with last minute invitations to Halloween parties.

The band played a cover of Andrew Gold's Spooky Scary Skeletons and their own single Can't Stop, taken from their 2002 album By The Way.

The band are set to be preparing to write the follow-up to their 2016 album The Getaway.

Flea recently posted a photo of his hand following a particularly intense jam session, so let's hope his thumb and fingers hold out during the songwriting process.
