Pop-metal-electro genremasher Poppy is leading the charge in Kerrang!'s Hottest Bands Of 2020 issue.

The enigmatic singer/songwriter's upcoming third studio album I Disagree will be released on Sumerian Records, home to the likes of Asking Alexandria and Sleeping With Sirens, but despite channeling everything from Marilyn Manson to BABYMETAL to Bring Me The Horizon in her music, she doesn't consider herself to be metal at all.

“A lot of people who have written about the new music have said it’s metal and pop, but I think that’s because they like the juxtaposition of that,” she tells Kerrang!.

“I’ve never said my music is metal, but I do listen to that music. To clarify: post-genre. Or prog rock or pop. We’re turning a new page.”

Poppy (real name Moriah Rose Pereira) also spoke about her friendship with shock-rock maestro Marilyn Manson, and how they have bonded over certain themes.

“Celebrity and media and technology are a goldmine of inspiration – they’re always changing, there’s always new faces, new products and ideas," says Poppy.

"It’s fascinating to step back and see how other people react to those things."
