Nine Inch Nails have announced that they've cancelled all appearances for the remainder of 2021, with live music "not at that place yet" where a "cathartic and celebratory return" can be made.

A statement from the duo reads: "It is with great regret that we are cancelling all NIN appearances for the remainder of this year.

"When originally planned, these shows were intended to be a cathartic and celebratory return to live music. However, with each passing day it's becoming more apparent we're not at that place yet.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience or disappointment and look forward to seeing you again when the time is right."

This isn't to say that we won't be hearing at all from NIN this year, though. Indeed, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross produced Halsey's highly-anticipated album If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, which is due out on August 27.

The vocalist also said back in April that he'd be starting work on the band's new music "probably tomorrow"… which, obviously, has already been and gone!
