CNN have shared new Capitol riot footage which shows a man resembling Iced Earth's Jon Schaffer charging and shouting at officers.
Following yesterday's news that Iced Earth vocalist Stu Block and bassist Luke Appleton quit the band "in response to recent events and circumstances", new footage from last month's pro-Donald Trump riots at the U.S. Capitol shows what looks like their former bandmate Jon Schaffer charging at officers.
The musician was previously photographed at the scene on January 6, and faces six charges relating to the event including "Violent Entry and Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building" and "Engage in an Act of Physical Violence in a Capitol Building". Now, these newly-released security videos (which were shared as evidence during Trump's impeachment trial, via CNN) show a man resembling Jon in a blue hooded jacket charging towards officers and seemingly shouting at them while pointing his finger.

While at the scene during the Capitol protests, the 52-year-old told German newspaper Die Welt, "They will go down. They’re messing with the wrong people, believe me.” He added of any potential riots: "If someone uses violence against us, we will react accordingly. We don’t want that, but we are ready.”

In a short statement announcing his departure from Iced Earth, bassist Luke Appleton wrote: "In response to recent events and circumstances, I have notified Iced Earth’s management and Jon that I will be resigning as the Iced Earth bassist with immediate effect. I would like to thank everyone who has sent me their support and love during this difficult time. Thank you!!!”
Vocalist Stu Block's statement read: "Well, there are times and events when you have to take stock and re-evaluate your life, work, and trajectory for the future. That being said I have informed Jon and his current management that I must announce my resignation from Iced Earth with immediate effect.
"Before I made any personal decision I needed the last few weeks to process the situation as well as respect others in our camp processing the situation. I thank you all very much for respecting this. It’s the best decision in many ways for my personal / professional growth going forward. Time to move on, heal and prosper. Much love and respect to you all. Don’t fret! Stay tuned for some exciting things to come! Time to embark upon a new chapter. Be good to each other."
