MySpace has accidentally lost 50 million songs
MySpace has confirmed that it has lost every single song uploaded to the social media platform between 2003 and 2015.
Throughout the 12-year period, over 50 million songs from 14 million artists were uploaded to MySpace, and now they have disappeared, due to problems encountered during a server migration.
In an official statement, MySpace say: "As a result of a server migration project, any photos, videos, and audio files you uploaded more than three years ago may no longer be available on or from Myspace."
"We apologise for the inconvenience and suggest that you retain your back up copies," it continues. "If you would like more information, please contact our Data Protection Officer, Dr. Jana Jentzsch at DPO@myspace.com.”
During MySpace's heyday, it was responsible for helping break some of the biggest artists in our world including Enter Shikari and Bring Me The Horizon.
Tech Expert, and one of the people responsible for building Kickstarter, Andy Baio tweeted his doubts over the announcement.
"I'm deeply skeptical this was an accident. Flagrant incompetence may be bad PR, but it still sounds better than 'we can't be bothered with the effort and cost of migrating and hosting 50 million old MP3s,'" he said.
