Bloodstock add Mastodon as Sunday night special guests
Mastodon will return to Bloodstock next year as main support to Gojira on Sunday night...
Mastodon is taking it nice and easy before their massive tour
Georgian GRAMMY-award winning metal giants Mastodon are very busy this year. With all this in mind, it seems the group is going to be taking it rather easy for the time being.
While there was plans to start working on the new record early in this year, bassist and vocalist Troy Sanders told Consequence Of Sound, "…instead of writing a new album, instead of diving head-first into new material right now, we’ve kind of just been enjoying a little home time and then rehearsing a lot of old material for this set that we’re doing this summer.
"So, we don't really talk about it or mark the calendar," Troy continues, "but just knowing how our band's operated for the past 19 years, once we recover and enjoy some home time after the summer tour, we'll probably, all four of us, I imagine, will be very excited to dive head-first into new material. And we never put timelines on us. We never put those restrictions on ourselves.
"But," he adds, "I would imagine that we'll work [on the new record] in the fall of this year."
It’s not like Mastodon hasn’t been working at all, though. The group just did complete European tour to end the cycle for their last full-length record, Emperor Of Sand. The band is beginning to gear up an extensive United States tour with beloved prog-rockers Coheed And Cambria, where the group will be playing their 2009 progressive-metal masterpiece, Crack The Skye, front to back. Support on these shows will be provided by classic Buffalo metalcore act Every Time I Die.
The group also just put out a cover of Led Zeppelin’s Stairway To Heaven in honor of their manager Nick John who had passed away from pancreatic cancer last September.
If you can’t wait any longer to have new Mastodon, be sure to check out the cover and to catch Mastodon on this monolith of a United States tour:
