Eddie Vedder unveils Cartography, originally taken from the soundtrack for Eric Becker’s 2018 Return To Mount Kennedy documentary.
With guitarist Stone Gossard launching a new side-project last week, and Pearl Jam's stunning 5K-rated album Gigaton arriving earlier in 2020, music from the Seattle grunge heroes is coming thick and fast this year – and now frontman Eddie Vedder has just released a brand-new solo track.
The moving instrumental effort goes by the name Cartography, and is released as part of the Sub Pop Singles Club Vol. 5. It is taken from the soundtrack to Eric Becker’s 2018 Return To Mount Kennedy documentary, with a new 2020 remix by Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner updated to include one of Robert F. Kennedy's iconic speeches.

“Listening to the speech delivered by Bobby Kennedy in regards to the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. 50 years ago, you are reminded that once again we are at a moment in time when our society can and must do better,” Eddie explains.
“Voting is our most powerful form of nonviolent protest. And those whom we vote for must be made deeply aware that the issues of equality and justice in America are of the utmost importance and need to be not only restored but taken to the next level. Now.”
Of course, Eddie has already been doing his part and spreading the message of the importance of voting in the upcoming U.S. election; earlier this month, the frontman joined Instagram and unveiled a step-by-step guide of how to vote by mail.
“You’ve just participated in the SINGLE GREATEST FORM OF NON-VIOLENT PROTEST,” he wrote in summary. “Your voice will be heard. And speaking as a bit of a singer myself, I know that can be a pretty good feeling.”
