Album review: Better Lovers – Highly Irresponsible
Heavy supergroup Better Lovers deliver the goods with a no-holds-barred debut that proves beyond doubt the chaotic beauty of being Highly Irresponsible…
Revealing that The Sea of Tragic Beasts is due out October 25th, Will Putney and co. release a music video for a track called Mirrors.
Deathcore titans Fit For An Autopsy have announced the upcoming release of their fifth full length album, The Sea Of Tragic Beasts, due out October 25th on Nuclear Blast Records worldwide, and Human Warfare in Australia.
While the band’s gradually evolving lineup is now stacked with some of the most talented metal musicians in the game, Fit For An Autopsy is perhaps best known for its lead writer and co-founding member, extreme music producer and guitarist Will Putney.
“We went into this record really focused on created more timeless music,” Will tells Kerrang!. “There’s a level of epic-ness and sense of purpose to these songs that feel more focused and powerful. I really like our last record but I feel like it marks the moment where we discovered what our potential could be, and going into The Sea Of Tragic Beasts, we had the confidence and vision to execute it better.
“From a sonic standpoint, without being too cliché, there’s a lot more variety on this record,” he continues. “Instead of throwing the kitchen sink into every song we developed individual moods and movements more completely to give them individual personalities. It’s less scattered to me, and each song takes me to a different place emotionally. It’s also really metal, really sad and aggressive and dark and intense all at once! I’m really proud of it."
In tandem with the announcement, the band have released a music video for the album’s lead single, Mirrors, directed by rising star Max Moore. Having created videos for the likes of Code Orange, Converge, and Knocked Loose, among countless other bands in just the last couple of years, Max is quickly establishing himself as metalcore’s go-to heavy hitter, with a distinctly dramatic style all his own.

“You carry things with you, for better or worse,” explains Will of the new song. “Mirrors illustrates the darker side of this idea. It's also a testament to how the decisions you make can have a resonating effect on the ones around you. Clearly, this song was born out of a personal struggle, but in the end, it's a reflection on the greater human condition of love and dependency; not being able to release yourself from the darkness around you. Our new record dives head-on into some difficult topics. Mirrors is the tip of the iceberg.”
While we excitedly wait for the full album, Kerrang! will soon be releasing an episode of Art of the Record – our new video series that documents Will’s studio work – featuring Fit For An Autopsy. In the meantime, you can check out the first episode of the series with Thy Art Is Murder below!
