Album review: Dune Rats – If It Sucks, Turn It Up
Aussie punk crew Dune Rats churn out bangers with wit and heart on stupidly fun fifth album, If It Sucks, Turn It Up…
“We wanted to make an album that throws you around a bit…” Aussie trio Dune Rats will be releasing their fifth record in August.
Dune Rats have announced their new album – the follow-up to 2022’s 4/5-rated Real Rare Whale.
The Aussie surf punk crew are set to release album number five – the excellently titled If It Sucks, Turn It Up – on August 9 via Ratbag Records / BMG.
“We wanted to make an album that throws you around a bit, like you are being washed around in the surf,” explains singer and guitarist Danny Beus. “We’re five albums in now so we knew it should be a record that shows all the different sides to the band.”
Dune Rats recently previewed what’s to come with latest single Cheapskate, which Danny says “came out of us spending a lot of time touring in the U.S. There’s this weird world where the rich kids from Hollywood are hanging out with the skate punks and all the kind of people we know because they have such a better time there. As you are growing up you might think having money and sick cars would be the cool thing, but really the coolest thing is hanging out with your mates at the skate park. You can’t buy that.”
