Don Broco have joined forces with the mighty Nickelback for a brand-new collab, Nightmare Tripping.
The Bedford gang’s latest banger is the title-track from their newly-announced fifth album – the follow-up to 2021’s Amazing Things – which is due out on March 27 via Fearless Records.
“Nightmare Tripping is the uncertainty between dreams and reality,” say Broco in a collective statement. “When the paralysis demon holding you down forces you to confront what you’ve tried to escape by going to sleep, blurring the boundaries of consciousness.
“In total contrast to that terror, collaborating on the song with Nickleback was a dream come true. Chad [Kroeger] and Ryan [Peake] were incredible to team up with, and shooting the video in a burnt out LA haunted house was an experience we’ll never forget.”
Speaking exclusively to Kerrang! about how it came to be, frontman Rob Damiani tells us: “Their guitarist, Ryan, his brother is a Don Broco fan. When we played in Vancouver they came out to see us. We didn’t know they were there, and then about a week later we got the loveliest email from them saying they came to the gig, they’d never heard of us before, but they loved it, and then they had gone and done a deep dive of all our videos.
“Fast-forward a year, we’d written the song, and we thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be crazy to ask them? Wouldn’t it be one of those collaborations that no-one would expect?’ And we thought, ‘Why not?’ It’s not really the sort of song that Nickelback would usually write themselves, and we had no idea if they’d like or not, but they got back instantly and said they loved it. They honestly recorded their parts within, like, a week, and it was all signed, sealed and delivered really fast. It was a really lovely, very easy process, which is quite rare in life.
“It’s a really Don Broco thing, isn’t it? It feels left-field, but also not. You put it together and go, ‘Of course!’”
