Exclusive: Get so fired up you get fired with the latest offering from Philly punk trio Control Top.
With Control Top, the word is energy. The Philly-based punk rock trio has a constant electricity moving through their music that never seems to subside; even their mid-paced songs have a knee-bouncing momentum to them. On their new album Covert Contracts, the band charge, sprint, and shudder forward on all cylinders, driven in no small part by the insistent, indefatigable vocals of singer/bassist Ali Carter, who sounds like Pat Benetar on speed winning a fight with a hapless lunchroom bully.
The band's new video, Office Rage, strikes a high-voltage chord everyone with a day job can relate to. The song's driven, acerbic tone perfectly suits its subject matter, turning the dead-eyed discontentedness of every employee who's ever cried in the bathroom into the venom-spitting outrage their shitty day job deserves. Meanwhile, the video itself is a blur of contrasting colors over business-casual outfits, with Control Top blazing out of their black-and-white existence until they move into a world of blinding color. It's somehow a smarter way of getting across the frustration of the daily grind than a linear narrative.

“In a society driven by profits over people, it’s increasingly rebellious to say, 'My well-being matters,'" says Carter. "Many jobs require us to show up as someone completely different than ourselves, which can feel very alienating. We’re told to be grateful to have a job, even if we’re miserable."
