Brendon Urie: “Even If I Write My Opus, It’ll Never Be A Masterpiece To Me…”

In this week's issue of Kerrang!, Brendon Urie takes us inside Panic! At The Disco's forthcoming record, Pray For The Wicked.

And as we learn absolutely everything about the making of album number six (due out this Friday), Panic!'s leader reveals that, as proud as he is of Pray For The Wicked, he'll never feel completely satisfied with his creations.

“Even if I write my opus, it’ll never be a masterpiece to me,” Brendon admits. “Nothing is ever good enough. I’m excited and I’m happy, but I’m sure I’ll say that about the next one…”

The Las Vegas native needn't worry: we've heard Pray For The Wicked (well… we've had it on repeat nonstop, actually), and we can confirm it is indeed good enough.

Thematically, it's also the most mature Panic! release yet, addressing everything from drinking less alcohol (“Let’s not glorify the party culture too much. Kids are dying off this shit, so let’s be smart,” Brendon says of One Of The Drunks), to proudly living out childhood dreams (“Once a decade passes, you start to take stock. Especially after you hit 30. You go, ‘What have I accomplished? What does it all mean?’” he reflects, discussing the gloriously uplifting High Hopes). It's a whirlwind listen, and an absolutely brilliant insight into the man Brendon Urie has become in 2018.

That's all we're going to give you for now, so if you want to find out more, you'd best pick up this week's issue of Kerrang!, eh? The mag looks like this, and is available anywhere in the world when you order online through Newsstand, or from all good newsagents for UK residents!
