Ando San has released a new single and video, THICK NECK.
Following March’s OH KAY EP, the LA artist’s newest effort arrives ahead of a couple of special U.S. shows to round out the year: Ando will play with The Home Team this month, before supporting PRESIDENT in December.
Speaking about THICK NECK, he explains that, “I wanted to channel my metal origins and blend a ’00s hip-hop vibe to the track. The guitar tone is very much inspired by classic death metal like Cannibal Corpse, and what kicked this song off was the riff. I’ve typically always done the beat first, but lately with the songs I’ve been writing the guitar has become the focal point of my process.
“THICK NECK is about how I have tough skin,” he adds. “I have been doing music full-time for seven years, and have had a lot of people in my ear telling me how I should act, what I should say, and how I should feel. It’s very important for me to be myself and follow my intuition with everything I do with my art. I very much tapped into myself for inspiration; as weird as that is to say, I feel like I’ve been having a lot of interesting ideas in my head that I’ve never really heard anywhere else. I’m still trying to figure out what that is, and I think that’s very exciting.”
