Swedish heavy metal legends have announced details of their 10th studio album, as well as releasing a brand new video and a tiny London show. Wowzers!
The viking metallers will release Jomsviking on March 25 through Sony Music (international) and Metal Blade Records (North America). Pre-orders are now available at the following link: http://www.omerch.eu/shop/amonamarth/. To accompany this news, the band are giving fans a first taste of the new album by releasing a video for their brand new single, First Kill – scroll down to watch!
Talking about the meaning behind the album, frontman Johan Hegg explains: “The Jomsvikings were a shadowy and legendary sect of Viking mercenaries, as shrouded in myth now as they were when they fought across Europe and the Middle East. Ruthless and deadly warriors who fought for the highest bidder, their code was simple: Show no fear. Never retreat.”
“Defend your brothers, and when called upon, avenge their deaths. I felt we were finally ready to use their story as the jumping off point for an Amon Amarth album. The Jomsvikings and their world is the background for the story of a young man that is in love with a girl but unfortunately she’s being married off. He accidentally kills a man when this happens and he has to flee – but he swears to have revenge and win her back. He can’t let go of the past. He feels that he’s been wronged and his life has been destroyed. The way the story evolves is not a happy story.“
On top of that, Amon Amarth will return to the UK on March 22 to play The Underworld in Camden, London. Head to the Kerrang! Ticket Store at 4pm today to get your hands on some tickets! In the mean time, check out the video below and let us know what you think in the comments section.
